Now that the children know all about ocean, community and transportation, it is time to move onto new units of study. This month will be so busy because of our beautiful weather, birds chirping, flowers blooming and BUGS! This month’s units will embrace this glorious weather, celebrate this new beginning of spring and we will be learning all about BUGS! I love how the subjects all run together and support each other. What a fun way to learn about the important things in life; like nature, love, and our precious environment.
We have almost finished the Pre-K Conferences, if you have not yet meet with Lauren please schedule you conference as soon as possible. Parents who have had their conference were so appreciative of the Pre-K teachers and director. A lot of thought went into planning the conferences and families were very touched by the amount of effort and love that went into each conference. The Pre-K children are looking forward to going onto their new adventures in Kindergarten, this time of year seems to just fly by, so we will enjoy every moment with our graduating students while we still can.

1st Annual Papermill Picnic & Graduation Ceremony
Another important date is Thursday May 30th. This year we will hold our 1st annual Papermill picnic/Graduation Ceremony. This picnic is a great place to celebrate a momentous day; you know it’s not every day you get to see your children Graduate. It will also be a great place connect with parents, meet your children’s friends, and create new friendships of your own. If you would like to be involved in the planning of the Picnic and Graduation please join us on Friday April 19th for a Parent Committee Meeting to discuss picnic location, activities and the Pre-K Graduation Ceremony. The parent meeting will begin at 3:30pm at Papermill end by 5:00pm. You are welcome to bring your child/children but only light snack will be provided.
Please look for the Papermill Picnic potluck sign-up sheet that we will post later this month after the Parent Committee meeting. The Potluck signup sheet will be taped to the Parent Table for the Picnic and Graduation Ceremony, note all children will be a part of the special day.
The children loved the Easter Celebration, they hopped all over the yard finding their eggs and special treats for their goody bags. We obviously could not have achieved this fun celebration without the parents that provided dozens of hard boiled eggs, plastic eggs with treats inside and a delicious feast of the children’s favorite dishes, Thank You! The children loved dying the eggs, and we had more than enough to share with everyone. It was a happy celebration for all!! Please enjoy the pictures that Parents took of our fun day on our Facebook page or the website www.papermillcreek.org
The staff is so creative and involved in all of the many units that happen each week. I hope you are taking home the art projects that are being produced daily. You can find the Art Work in the children’s files located on the sign-in-out table or in their cubbies.
Summer and Fall Enrollment
Now that the end of the year is upon us, it is hard to believe that summer is quickly approaching. We will be changing gears mid-June to include Summer Camp Theme Days at Papermill. Some of our favorite Theme Days are Beach Day, Pajama Day, Crazy Hair Day, and Backwards Day. The summer calendar will be finished by April 26th, keep an eye out for sign-up. The children love these days and talk about them all year long. If your child is graduating and would like to stay for some fun summer camp, please let us know as soon as possible. Our summer program is also open to new students that do not attend Papermill during the regular school year, so spread the word the more the merrier. Once our summer session is over, we will still be accepting any new students for fall.
The children continuing on at Papermill will have the opportunity to make new friends as our eager new students begin in June, July, or August. Our last day of summer school will be Thursday, August 23th. We will be closed Friday, August 24th, for our annual teacher work day. This is always a fun day where the staff gets to spend quality time planning, preparing, and creating a new environment for the upcoming fall session. School will reopen on Monday, August 27th for the new school year.
Other Dates to Remember:
May 5 & 6 Mother’s Day Celebration
May 27 Memorial Day—Papermill Closed
May 30th Papermill Pre-K Graduation
We would like to invite all of our Papermill moms & grandmas to join us on Wednesday May 8th or Thursday May 9th from 8:30 to 10:30 am for a special breakfast served to you by your child/children. You will also be presented with a Mother’s Day gift and card! The children have worked very hard on these gifts over the past few weeks and can’t wait to give them to you. A special Mother’s Day’s event of finding your self-portrait will be displayed on the front wall above the cubbies when you first walk into Papermill during the week of May 6-10th.
I hope you have noticed our many improvements at Papermill. We have a safe new concrete slab for the propane tank, trimmed and cleaned up the hedges surrounding the school, cleared out debris and dead plants in the garden which is now open and ready for more gardening, and last but not least we have added two new family style tables that were donated by Noel tree and gardening. We are getting ready to put up a painting wall by the art area; we know that it will be a huge hit at the school.
Some of our parents have begun clearing out the garden to plant new flowers, fruits and veggies. The children grow more excited each day in anticipation for the gardening to begin. If any other parents are interested in helping and have a green thrum please contact Lauren. We are also looking for donations of gardening supplies, flowers, seeds and anything else you think we may need to help our garden flourish. This summer we will have so many fresh fruits and vegetables for the children to share. What a wonderful experience for everyone involved. We will watch in wonder each day as our little garden transforms, grows and produces yummy food for us to enjoy. Thank you!!!
